Anubias barteri "coffeefolia" is a very beautiful, low variety of Anubias barteri. It is characteristic that the leaves arch considerably between the leaf ribs, and the new leaves are red-brown. The colour combination and leaf shape make it an attractive variety in both large and small aquariums. It flowers frequently under water but does not produce seeds there. Anubias species seem to grow so slowly that they do not realise that they have been submerged. It is not eaten by herbivorous fish. |

Tropica Aquarium Plants was the first nursery to grow Anubias barteri v. nana in the 1970"s. It is a very sturdy swamp plant and it often set submerged flowers - it seems like the plant doesn"t realize it is growing submerged. It is slow growing and should be offered low light regimes to avoid algal growth on the leaves. It accepts all kind of freshwaters - hard and soft, acid and alkaline. Anubias barteri v. nana prefers to grow the rhizome above or on the substrate surface and it is therefore very suitable for growth directly on rocks and roots. It is easily reproduced by dividing the rhizome and Tropica produces Anubias barteri v. nana on lava, roots, and in pots.

B | Bacopa (Carolina) |
$3.94
|
Bacopa caroliniana has been used as an aquarium plant
for many years. Apart from relatively good light it
makes few demands. Its slow growth rate makes it one
of the few stem plants that do not need much
attention. Like most stem plants, it is most
decorative when planted in small groups. Easy to
propagate by cuttings; take a side shoot and
plant it in the bottom. (Six Beautiful Plants!) |
|
BEO1 | Bubble Eye (4.5in. or 10-11cm.) |
$16.99
|
Bubble eyes too are similar to the fantail and, like the lionhead, have no dorsal fin. They have large eye sacs looking like a pair of bubbles either side of the head. |
|
BMO6 | Black Moor (2.5in. or 6-7cm.) |
$4.99
|
The broadtail moor is, in effect, a jet black veiltail with spherical protruding eyes. Far Eastern imports generally have good eyes and colouration but a somewhat 'rectangular' body outline and a thin-lobed, deeply-forked tail. Breeding for the broad tail seems to result in smaller eyes and a bronze or silver belly, and it is a challenge to prevent the deviation of these characters from the standard whilst improving the tail. |
|
BPA | Banana Plant (Nymphoides aquatica) |
$4.94
|
Circular leaves attached to swollen tubes that resemble
a bunch of bananas. This is a floating plant with
small white flowers that extend above the surface of
the water. |
|
CESO1 | Celestial Eye (aka Stargazers) (4.5in. or 10-11cm.) |
$38.99
|
These are similar to the fantail but, like the lionhead, have no dorsal fin. The eyes are protruding like the moor's and are "upturned" so that the fish looks towards the sky, hence the name. As for the lionhead, there is no dorsal fin. These are our largest. |
|
CESO7 | Celestial Eye (aka Stargazers) (3in. or 7-8cm.) |
$13.99
|
These are similar to the fantail but, like the lionhead, have no dorsal fin. The eyes are protruding like the moor's and are "upturned" so that the fish looks towards the sky, hence the name. As for the lionhead, there is no dorsal fin. |
|
CESO9 | Celestial Eye (aka Stargazers) (4in. or 9-10cm.) |
$28.99
|
These are similar to the fantail but, like the lionhead, have no dorsal fin. The eyes are protruding like the moor's and are "upturned" so that the fish looks towards the sky, hence the name. As for the lionhead, there is no dorsal fin. This is the large pond size! |
|
